Where Is This Now

How slow and careful are our steps, as we walk out onto the shore of the nether clutching each others hearts like handrails. The cadence of an aching glow in the distance is hypnotic. The hushed beat of our bare feet across grains of cosmic dust excites me, and my throat submits to a forgotten instinct.

When we are standing under the threshold to the imminent moment, I ask you if we are alone. You grin some kind of mischievous and shout for every other name but mine. I mean to say something harsh, but am stopped by the silent refrain of an enveloping melody. Its lips brush across my fists, and I let the lids of my eyes fall, ready to be taken.
