When I awoke at the last stop, there was little time for warning in the moment between my eyes meeting the horizon line and the sun spilling into existence. I shielded my eyes as heaven's gift barreled into view, wrapped in a gold sheen, stretching its arms across the landscape in a gesture so welcoming, I froze.
Photon torpedoes launched from a star millions of miles away, brought me to tears, and bombarded me with a message coded in high-frequency sine waves of energy: YOU ARE NOT ALONE.
The hands of this hydrogen leviathan dramatically swept the curtain away from the scenery before me and laid bare the tender vastness of my home, an arena of forestry and water and earth, demanding their freedom, hoping to subvert gravity's embrace, all of them reaching out to their illuminating god.
